Kathakar 2022 summer special in the national capital will be curating some amazing stories from across the globe which would also send the audience into raptures with stories and music from the deserts of the Thar, ‘Curious Tales from the Desert’.

Singer Mohit Chauhan who is also the patron of the festival along with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and musician Shantanu Moitra will be interacting with audiences over two days at the festival. Shri Kiren Rijiju will be giving a special address while Minister for Culture, Smt Meenakshi Lekhi will be part of the session Kissey, Kahaniyaan aur Dastaaney.

The festival will also mark the release of the book, Curious Tales from the Desert, by the Dehradun-based Gahilote sisters, Shaguna and Prarthana, who are also the curators of the festival along with Rachna Gahilote Bisht.

The other highlights at Kathakar 2022 are theatre artist Sikanadar Khan, Sanchi Peswani and storyteller Michal Malinowski (Poland). Sikandar Khan will be narrating, in his inimitable style, the folk tales of Rajasthan, including the ones from Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Vijaydan Detha. Sanchi Peswani will be performing Dastangoi in Gujarati for the first tome in Delhi and a hilarious tale from the Gahilote sister’s new book. Michal will be bringing some unheard tales from the Polish sand dunes.

Madan Gopal Singh & Chaar Yaar will be adding the desert sufi music while Mohd Rafiq Langha & group will bring a little bit of the Thar to Delhi with their sounds of the desert on the concluding day of the festival.

Kathakar is India’s first & only oral storytelling festival started 12 year ago by NGOs Nivesh & HHACH. Babaji Music promotes cultural programmes across various regions & genres. The festival was started under the aegis of UNESCO to preserve & promote the ancient art of storytelling.
