Madhubani painting or Mithila painting is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar state, India. The name is itself named on the village Madhubani.
The Madhubani painting are originated at the time of Ramayana, when king Janak commissioned artists to do paintings at the time of marriage of his daughter Sita, to Hindu god lord Rama.
This is a traditional painting being followed since many years now by the women of Bihar. Earlier paintings were only done on mud walls, on floor (Rangoli) at festivals, marriages etc. But now a days Madhubani painting is famous all over the India as well as the world. Many artists have got multiple awards for this art and we wish this art to spread as most as possible.
Hira Devi has been doing Madhubani painting since 40+ years now. This traditional art was followed a lot by her mother Late. Smt.Mahasundari Devi. She was one of the greatest artists of Madhubani painting (National Awardee, Achievement of honorary Padma Shri).
Hira Devi has done more then 200+ workshops and many exhibitions in her tenure as painter. She has been recognized by World Craft Council (Asia Pacific Region), SAARC and have received multiple awards from Indian government.
